Crossing The Plains

For the last 2 days we  have been crossing the southern plains,  through Arkansas and Oklahoma. We are about to enter Texas arriving in Santa Fe this evening. Then the fun begins!!

The plains are beautiful, first with lush farmland and now with wide open space, windmills and wonderful subtle colors. Spencer and Grant spotted rice fields in Arkansas just after we crossed the Mississippi. The open road brings much less traffic
which is quite helpful for a pleasant ride .

The wind mills were numerous

Visit with Charlie and Yvonne

Had a wonderful visit with our old neighbors and dear friends Charlie and Yvonne. Great food and great memories. Charlie's gardens are of course spectacular and we feasted on our first true native tomatoes of the season. Spencer found a really cool caterpillar on one of the tomato plants. It had white appendages all over it. We were about to squish it, to help Charlie, but decided to wait for him to get back from the store so he could identify it. Ha!! Good thing because, of course, with Charlies wonderful wealth of knowledge and his gardening expertise, he knew right were it was, and explained it was a caterpillar, paralyzed and covered in wasp eggs. He was deliberately leaving it there because the wasps would help the garden . Good thing we didn't squish it :)
